Teiyette and the Devil's Message

Teiyette and the Devil is a short story written by a 17 year old girl from Guadeloupe. In context, someone can infer that she is an Afro-Caribbean individual based from the short story, Teiyette and the Devil. However, this piece of literature has aspects of creole by a 17 year old female Teiyette and the Devil, For my For my input on this story, it has literary characteristics, which means  it its morely for entertainment and has also a serious message they are trying to get across. In my personal viewpoint, the author was implementing that even though he is a handsome-looking man or even a pretty female, they can be toxic or just not good for you. The intended audience the author was reaching out to was basically young girls. The author does it in many brilliant ways. The most entertaining part of the story was when the girl was meeting the guys trying to woo her and being described as unappealing animals. " The young girl came out, picked up the most silver cup and gave a goat a drink from it"- Teiyette and the Devil. It gives a reader a an understanding that the man trying to marry the girl is not attractive whatsoever. Then, they add another character, which is a pig, additionally tries to get with the girl. The way the reader can infer how the man looks is obese or just not cute in her eyes. Another things that keeps my attention to the story is the reiteration of the same phrases.

"oh, Mama! oh, Mama! Bel-air drum!
the man to whom you married me, Bel-air drum!
is a terrible devil! Bel-air drum!
he's eating me up! Bel-air drum!"

Her technique of of repetition throughout the story gives me as a reader some knowledge on the tone of the story and what the characters feeling are at these moments. The use of "Bel-air drum", is at the end of each sentence to be read in a style of a poem. It gives the readers the ability to read the story the same was as everyone else since it gives us a rhythm to read the story. It approaches the audience of young women by being aware of abuse in any way shape or form and does it in an entertaining way. The theme of the story got through very efficiently
